The three factories are located close to Kuala Tanjung, so it’s cheaper,” he said. Bambang mentioned that Unilever has 400,000 container for shipment per week. For Wilmar, they’re in a negotiation process as to have 200,000 TEUs shipping per week, whereas the cigarette factory is expected to bring in 50,000 – 100,000 TEUs for export. The one-hand shipment is expected to bring Kuala Tanjung export to a minimum of 500 – 600 shippable containers. The export destinations are North Asia, China, and Taiwan. “All permits have been secured, including the operation permit from Transportation Ministry and the customs permit. So, only the preparation for operation is left,” he said. Corporate Secretary of Pelindo I M. Eriansyah added that Kuala Tanjung Port is expected to become an international hub and national logistics node that can attract the huge shipping market in Malacca Strait waters that has up to 100 million TEUs of cargo flows each year.
